It seems that I’m really into stars this season, which started with my clay star ornaments and I haven’t stepped a foot off that train since. With much inspo from Scandi Christmas designs plus keeping to a monochrome palette, the stars feel a lot more modern while still being cute and whimsical for that holiday cheer. I DIG IT.
Also, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t tell you that this gift wrap idea is really easy, really simple and takes [insert number less than 10] seconds to do.
After wrapping the gift, wrap a long piece of string around it three times.
Punch out the stars from the card stock.
Dab Tacky glue on the back of each star and stick them on to the string.
To make your own gift tags, cut a pennant shape out of the card stock and write your message with a pen or marker. Glue it on to the string like you did with the stars.
On another note, these are my wrapping paper picks this Christmas and they’ll be back for another gift wrap idea soon enough! I made it a goal to simplify and keep things minimal, which I noticed has been the theme for pretty much everything in my life this year. ALL I’ve been craving is less, I can’t get enough of it. Anyone feeling me on this?
We’ve already reached my favorite gift category. Gifting for the home can be tricky. My general criteria is to not gift something that’s a huge commitment or statement on decor, or to keep it to something functional and useful. Got a few hostess gifts sprinkled in here and a few things that I personally love and would purchase all over again, keeping to simple and minimal designs that have a ton of potential to fit into any home.
1. Drye hand towel– Really pretty and unique hand towel designs, plus it comes in a tin can that makes it even more adorable for gift giving.
2. Modernica desk top planter– A seriously cute planter that can fit almost anywhere. I move mine around from the dining table to the living room.
3. Brass lift coasters– Gorgeously simple and minimal.
4. Brooklinen bedsheets– I got these. 1) They’re excellent 2) They came folded in a beautiful gray tote bag and I immediately thought how amazing it would be to gift. Who doesn’t appreciate an extra set of fresh bedsheets??
5. Clover serving bowl– You already know I love the pattern. Also, I don’t know if it’s just me, but serving bowls are one of those things I wouldn’t prioritize to get for myself but would absolutely love to get as a gift. You too?
6. Beechwood table brush– I have a plastic version of this and it is SO useful for tabletop messes. An upgraded one like this would be so nice to gift, and it’s one of those simple things I think most wouldn’t know they needed until they used it and thought omg why didn’t I already have this.
7. Ceramic marble canister– Pretty storage is always appreciated. I was even thinking this could be a perfect vessel to fill with wax for a homemade candle. Would you want to see that DIY??
8. Brass salad servers– A bit pricey, but maybe the only salad servers one would ever need. Brass. <3
9. Copper cheese plate with knives– Would make any cheese/charcuterie enthusiast giddy.
10. Faceted vases– I got this in white and loved it so much that I got it in black too. Very versatile vases for simple, small arrangements. I like to keep one in the bathroom filled with greens.
11. Grid plank– Serve on this side, cut on the back side. Beautiful and useful hostess gift.
Let me know if you’re loving any of these, and as always, if you have a find that you think I should check out!
I’ll be with my family for the rest of the week, but before I go I wanted to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. Today I’ll be on a mission to get a very popular pie I didn’t think ahead about pre-ordering and may have to stand in line for. Wish me luck ha! Have a wonderful holiday!
I’ve always always always wanted to make an advent calendar, and I realized that the reason I hadn’t was because I was saving the tradition for when we have children. What was I thinking? I like chocolate and toys, too!
The exciting thing about the holidays is traditions, and it dawned on me that we hardly have any, and again, I think I was reasoning that these would be things we do when we start a family. So, putting this off no more, I’m starting an advent calendar tradition around here. I assigned him the odd numbers and myself the even ones, and we’re putting zero limitations on what can be put inside so long as it’s small, maybe candy, a note, an activity, gosh isn’t the daily surprise exciting??
The idea for this calendar came to me the instant I found these wood tree stickers at Michaels that I love for their Scandinavian design. The annoying thing is that it comes in a pack of 24, which is perfect for the proper advent calendar, but if you’re trying to do 25 days like I am (because 25 bags make a perfect hanging triangle), I’d recommend just tracing one of the trees onto black paper and using that as the 25th one. Yup, that’s what I did. Although really thinking about it now, I wouldn’t have minded getting a second pack because these trees are so cute and I’d love thinking up another idea for them. Perhaps something with gift wrap!
I painted all but one tree black.
I used a white paint pen to number the black trees. On the unpainted tree, I initially used a regular black Sharpie and it bled. This would not have happened with a black paint pen, so that’s a good tip right there: stick to oil-based paint pens.
After browsing the Container Store for an embarrassingly joyful amount of time, I decided on these adorable mini tote bag boxes.
I peeled off the backing of the sticker on each tree and stuck each one onto a tote bag.
I tied nine pieces of string evenly across a hanging dowel and attached each bag onto the string in a triangle formation with white clothespins. Any excess string hanging below the bottom row was cut off.
This could easily be a Christmas tree alternative as well, perfect for small spaces and people who love functionality (raise your hand with me).
Do you have an advent calendar tradition? What do you put in yours, or is there a theme?
It begins! The first of this season’s gift wrapping ideas, and maybe not what most would expect. Here’s the deal. Gift cards aren’t my first option for gift-giving to a close friend, but the truth is that some friends and family members are really hard to shop for though we have a general idea of the things they like, or we know of a big purchase they’re planning to make and want to help with that, or there are people in our lives we don’t know too well that we still want to include on our list (coworkers, teachers, etc.), OR maybe we know the recipient truly appreciates a reason to go shopping (this is me.)
Point is, there are a lot of gift cards that are about to be gifted soon, and I’ve partnered with Gift Card Mall to come up with an easy and creative way to make it a little more special. Following my mantra of ‘everything is better when it’s mini’, I made these mini wreath gift card holders that are 1) a very cute way to present a gift card and 2) essentially doubling as a second gift because the recipient can hang it up and feel merry while looking at it. It’s a two-fer!
Cut a piece of vine-wrapped wire at least 1.5 times longer than you need, depending on how small or big you want the wreath to be (my wreath is 5.5 inches in diameter). It helps to roughly make the circle with the wire then cut off excess wire.
Round out the wire and wrap around the ends like shown above.
Starting with the end of the stem, anchor the greenery onto the wreath with floral wire.
Wrap the wire along the rest of the greenery to secure it to the wreath. Add on layers until desired fullness is achieved.
Insert the gift card into the envelope. I got a pack of mini enclosure cards from the gift wrap aisle at the drugstore and the envelopes were the perfect size. Plus, we have cards now to include a nice note (aw).
Tie the ribbon around the card into a bow.
Slide a piece of baker’s twine through the top loop of the ribbon. This would be a good time to mention that sticking a piece of Washi tape on the back where the ribbon intersects is recommended to keep it stable for hanging (next steps).
Tie the twine around the wreath into a lark’s head knot. Knot the ends of the twine closely to the wreath and cut off the excess.
Tie another piece of twine at the top for the wreath to hang from.
The wreaths can definitely be made smaller, which is great if you don’t want to mess with the hanging apparatus and just tape the card to the wreath. I stuck one long piece of Washi tape all the way across the back side of each smaller wreath and pressed it onto the card to hold it in place.
And absolutely, this is a DIY you can do to just decorate for the holidays. These are easy and simple enough to put up anywhere and everywhere. Even more reason why gifting them would be sweet.

Well. It’s already Thanksgiving next week. That creeped up reeaaal fast. While the end of Friendsgiving pretty much marks the end of my fall decorating since I don’t host the actual Thanksgiving dinner, I thought I’d still share some of my favorite Thanksgiving ideas for those of you who will be hosting! If you’re looking for decor inspiration that won’t take you a ton of time but will still look awesome, take a look at some of these gorgeous ideas. Enjoy!
Alright guys, it’s the first of the weekly gift guide series I’ll be doing here to help inspire ideas for gift giving this season, and at the very least to enjoy browsing beautiful things, a favorite activity of mine (and everyone’s, no?) I’m also going to include products here and there that I can stand behind and recommend from personal use since I think that can be interesting to know, and simply fun to talk about. Hopefully this will help you discover something new, or get you pumped about good design. We’re basically window shopping together. YES!
For her, I’m thinking about the modern and minimalist ladies who love the classics:
1. Gold bar initial necklace– I wear this necklace almost everyday, sweat a lot in it, and sometimes forget to take it off. It still has the same gorgeous luster as it always did and hasn’t tarnished at all. It’s outstanding.
2. An Organised Life 2016 Diary– A planner for the minimalist, monochrome loving chick, and a plus that it already comes beautifully packaged like a gift.
3. Cashmere knit-striped scarf– Are scarves as gifts played out? Not as long as they keep making pretty scarves, no.
4. Cluse watch– Rose gold and grey = killer color combo
5. Curved diamond studs– Simple gold studs. Always.
6. Delfonics pen case– Sleek way to carry pens or makeup.
7. Pyramid jewelry stand– One of the prettiest jewelry holders I’ve seen.
8. Slim zip wallet– I’m calling this the most perfect slim leather wallet I’ve always wanted. Most likely will be my gift to myself this year (treat yo’self).
9. Copper table mirror– Would make a very pretty addition to any vanity table. It comes in brass, too!
10. Geo storage jars– Still have the vanity table on the brain, thinking this would be a cute way to hold things like q-tips and cotton balls.
11. Parker crossbody bag– Classic bag that I’d imagine most anyone would love, and it’s 30% off right now so that’s convenient!
Any favorites here? Also, let me know who in your life is the hardest person to shop for. I’m curious to see if we are all thinking the same people.
