Shop: Black for the Home

black for the home

One half of my favorite color combo, you knew that. I LOVE black for the home, so I’m happy to see it getting a lot of extra stage time in interiors lately. I fantasize about going bold with a black sofa, or a black bed, or a black wall, but I still love it maybe the most in small details and decor accents. See if you’d like to add any of these things to your home for chic and modern accessorizing.

1. Napkins– Cute and simple graphic design.
2. Bowl– A sexy home for fruit.
3. Plant stand– Minimal design with a small footprint.
4. Kubus bowl– This one is very high on my wishlist.
5. Small bowl/a>- A very pretty catchall from a store with an admirable purpose.
6.
Rug– Eyeing this one for the entryway.
7. Basket– For storage or line it with a bag to use as an office waste bin.
8. Soap dispenser– I use this everyday and it’s delightfully gorgeous.
9. Faceted vase– I like to pair the small one with the previous soap pump in the bathroom. I shared a shot of that here.
10. Spoonless container– Meant for the kitchen but looks awesome on any shelf.
11. Flatware– Matte black flatware needs to happen.

DIY Stars and Moons Easter Eggs

Stars and crescent moons Easter eggs

First Easter egg DIY on the blog!  Decorating eggs was never a part of our tradition growing up, but it’s such a fun one, much like decorating pumpkins which I love.  I do remember my mom getting those plastic eggs that you can put candy inside and then she’d hide them around the house for me to find.  Candy is great and all, but now I’d rather eat an egg (most of the time), and I made sure that these eggs can still be eaten after decorating since it’s simply shapes cut out of adhesive vinyl.

See the full tutorial for these stars and moons Easter eggs at the PBteen blog!

The-Apartment-By-The-Line

It’s that wonderful time of the year where the daylight extends into the evening, and besides being able to take a break from the ridiculousness and stress that goes on here to chase that daylight for photos, it’s just a much happier state when there’s more sun, don’tcha think? In short, I feel real good about Spring being here.  ALTHOUGH, starting this week I’ve had this extremely annoying cough that others have said might be allergies/reactions to the changing season?  Huh?  Do you know anything about that or do you have this annoying cough, too?

Anyways, I’m feeling high on motivation to get to cleaning like a maniac (oh yes, Spring cleaning). Tons of errands and tidying to-do’s I’m hoping to tackle this weekend, a lot of it in preparation to share some changes I’ve made to the home soon here on the blog, YAY.

Hope you all had a great week, and have a happy weekend <3.

A very, very pretty home

Maybe the prettiest sweet treat I’ve seen, and possibly my next color inspo.

How to get out of a creative rut.

I couldn’t pick a favorite photo. Can you? Scroll right.

I want everything.

For the love of mud cloth + how it’s made.

Wanderlust is peaking.

What do you think of the changes coming to Instagram? I linked this article because John Mayer’s post sums it up well.

Craving Blush

I’ve never been terribly excited about pink, but something has happened.  Maybe it’s Spring, maybe it’s how good it looks in Scandinavian interiors, or really with any neutrals, and maybe for once the Pantone color of the year is having an effect on me.  I usually don’t subscribe to that trend but I’ve been noticing rose quartz a lot everywhere and I LIKE it.  I also believe any lover of copper has a natural affinity to blush colors since they can be so similar in tone, and copper is definitely growing on my love list this year. Consequently, I’m feeling very inspired to incorporate blush into a project soon.  How do you feel about this soft and adorable color?

03/15 DIY

DIY Textured Vase

DIY-Textured Vase

I had plans for a different DIY that ended up not turning out that cute, and through my attempt to salvage that idea I ended up here with this one.  It came from wanting to cover up a vase I painted with clay, then wanting to hide the uneven texture/marks from my fingers with an intentional textural design.  Yea sorry the story isn’t more exciting haha, but this kind of thing happens a lot around here.  I would call it a main leg of my “creative process.”  Fails always have something to give!

Materials:
air-dry clay
-rolling pin
parchment paper
clay ribbon tool
-glass vase
X-ACTO knife

Clay

Roll out the clay long enough so that it can wrap around the glass.  It doesn’t have to be pretty, but more importantly it should be as even as possible in thickness (mine was about 1cm thick, maybe a little thicker).

Clay Wrap

Wrap the clay around the vase and bind the clay where it overlaps after cutting off the excess length.

Cut

Use an X-ACTO knife to cut of excess clay around the bottom and top edges of the glass.

Clay Ribbon

This is the fun and therapeutic part.  Use the clay ribbon tool to cut lines down the side of the vase.  It takes some practice to cut steady and at a consistent depth.

Air dry that.  24 hours. I used air dry clay knowing that it’s usually softer in texture and thinking that would make it easier to work with, but I found myself wishing it had less give when I was using the ribbon tool.  I’d give oven-bake clay a go next time to see if the ribboning part goes more smoothly.

DIY Textured Vase-2

Also next time I’d be curious to try cutting different patterns, even something as simple as cutting diagonally (the idea came to me as I realized yet again that cutting straight is not the easiest thing to do.)

Textured Vase DIY

This definitely goes for the look of handmade ceramics which is easily a very favorite thing of mine.  Knowing that can be a pricey genre of goods, I for sure consider a DIY for this as a worthwhile option to take!

Black Hardware

One of the millions of decisions I look forward to making for our future house is the hardware.  It’s a small detail that can pack a lot of personality and make a big difference.  It’s also something I could totally get into now at the apartment but sometimes I think I enjoy this state of dreaming and “one day” too much.  Weird?  The better explanation is that I’d rather deal with that hassle in a place more permanent, but yes for now we dream!

Matte black, guys.  I love it for everything these days and can’t stop, especially in combination with marble aaah.  What do you think of it?
